Hi, we have an old homemade trailer (been in the family years) its solid as a rock, I have been told recently by a friend it may now be illegal due to new laws unless I get it tested ? is this correct ? after a while searching on the web it seems clear as mud :(
Cheers for any light anyone can shed.

Not illegal as long as tyres & lights are ok but if you have breakdown cover you may find they won't recover the trailer.

I have on old engineer built trailer too. stronger than any modern trailer. New lights new tyres. Nowt wrong with it. I picked up 1/2 tonne of logs this week with it no problem.

I built my own in 1980 and it's still going strong. In better condition than me now.

Even if it was built after 2010 they couldn't prove otherwise unless it had a weight plate on it with the date of manufacture
