Thanks Grampian - sorry, I didn't phrase my question well. I'm wanting to change my car - for various reasons I don't want to sell it privately, and I was trying to figure out what price I could get selling at auction but I have no idea of a realistic reserve. There's not many Santa Fe's go through, and I'm usually accessorised with a grumpy but inquisitive two year old, who could result in me accidentally acquiring practically anything in an auction environment!
If you do a Google search for vehicle auctions in your area and check their websites there is usually a section for past results. Brightwells are our main locals. Or do a search of Ebay to see what they are selling for.
Thanks Phil - for once google has not been particularly helpful as our nearest car auction houses seem to be the big boys like BCA and Mannheim, and you have to be a member to get past prices on their website (I don't really get why though!). Your auctioneers are much more helpful in terms of accessing info - but unfortunately haven't sold a Santa Fe :-( Will have another play with google and see if I can come up with the names of more ...
Thanks michell8 - yes, have been registered on both BCA and Mannheim as a private buyer, but it's so frustrating that you can only see half the picture and can't view the actual selling prices! Thank you for the Central link though - that was very helpful.
I have been on several caravan forums for 5 years (since we got our van) and I have never seen this question asked before (or even on other car/motorbike forums I'm on) - a question I've often wondered myself.
I've just killed an hour on those websites, planning my next buy...

With the fees your going to get a fair chunk less than the bid price.
If you dont want to sell privately then the car buying sites will give you an idea on the minimum its worth.
Try a few local dealers and see how much they can better those offers.
Is nelmo being sarcastic? If not you need to use more websites. Its a common question on one i use. If your lucky one of the traders that use the sites may let you know what they fetch.
As i mentioned though checkout all the fees and dont forget to add VAT if they have not.
I see you live in West Yokshire, why not pop along to BCA at Brighouse, you can see if they have any Santa Fe s going through by looking at their website before you go. Alternatively see what a dealer is selling a same year for and take off around 40-50%

Honestly, I wasn't - I've never seen that question before.
A couple of years ago, I toyed with the idea of buying a car from an auction but what partly put me off was not knowing how much to expect too pay - not just the actual car but the fees etc.
I went to a couple of auction websites but I never found any section giving historical prices (maybe I just missed them). I couldn't work out how to see upcoming stock on-line without registering, so I couldn't be bothered randomly turning up at an auction in the hope of them having what I wanted.
Admittedly, I didn't put a huge amount of effort into trying to find out...

Thank you all again. Nelmo - I kept thinking it should surely be possible to see guideline auction prices somehow but could never find them online! I guess my google skills must be less sharp that I think they are :-)
Pricing from the likes of Parkers and What Car always seem to be greeted with a fair degree of derision by most traders, so I don't have too much faith in them being much use. If you so much as utter the words "ah but Parkers say its worth ..." they almost invariably interrupt you and, in a voice dripping with scorn and derision, say "Parkers? Ha!! We don't bother with Parkers in the trade, we only use the Glass Guide" - a book which has gained near mythical status in my mind as I've never actually seen one!
For what it's worth, Parkers show mine as being worth £8240 in part ex, What car say £7200 part ex, webuyanycar offered to pay £7120 - which I turned my nose up at until a local dealer offered to buy it for £6300 ...
