just wondering if anyone knows if we are legally allowed to tow a caravan with a Vectra vxr with automatic gearbox?

getting conflicting information & now confused.

I think you will find the car is not approved for towbar fitment & towing. This will be because of lowered suspension & body kit. The info on parkers does not quote a towing weight, but you need to check in car handbook, if there is no tow weight or gross train weight in the spec. then it can't be used for towing.

Similar issue with the Mondeo ST220. Not type approved for towing even though it should make a very capable towcar.

Not sure whether the issue is with the car itself or the fact that it has an automatic gearbox. If it's the latter, well I wouldn't tow with a manual as an auto is so much easier. If it's the car itself, do reputable companies make a towbar for it? If not, you have your answer.

I also agree with michell8, "if there is no tow weight or gross train weight in the spec. then it can't be used for towing."

Is there any reason you want a VXR or is it just a want as it seems to be an awesome car for solo driving but seems to be a bit overkill for towing and would cost a fortune in fuel.

Thanks for the above comments. The car does have gross weights printed on the inside of the drivers door to a maximum of 3058kg off the top of my head and you can get towbars to fit. If I did get a van then it would only be a light 2 berth van as its only me and the wife that would be using it due to kids too old for caravanning(Not cool anymore)

Witter don't list a towbar for a VXR. Maybe give them a ring and ask why?

What does the logbook state under the max braked/unbraked towing weight?

Exactly which VXR are you talking about?
Can you please quote all the figures listed on the plate, please?

Its a vectra vxr hatchback. 280hp.
on the door sticker it has 2080kg and under that it says
3680kg. May just have to forget it until next year and look for a deisel towcar and leave the vxr for fun drives.
