No point looking on Toyota website as there is now a new model of Rav 4 but there is no reason to doubt Parkers in this case, 1500kg max sounds about right & other websites give same figure but with unladen weight of car at 1500kg you would want to be towing caravan of no more than 1300kg fully laden.
Look in the handbook of the car you are considering buying & it will give you correct info on towing weights.
I don't know what you mean about Australia but if you are considering a car that has been imported from Australia, I would avoid, the spec will be different from UK & insurance could be higher.

Apparently because of the terrain in Australia they downrated the towing weight so as to reduce claims
I would guess downrated towing weight for rough terrain was due to the extra stress placed on towbar mountings. If the car is UK spec then several websites give 1500kg max max tow for model made up to 2012 & higher weights for current model. To stay within about 85% your max weight caravan would be around 1300kg but as with any car you need to check handbook.
If no max tow weight is quoted then there will be a gross train weight & as long as car & caravan together weigh less than that & also within quoted individual axle weights then you are legal.
A little bit off subject, but do Rav4s still have the rear door that opens from the side with the big spare wheel on, rather than from the top? I saw someone with one like that once and it was impossible to open with the caravan attached.
Not all '06-12 Rav 4s have rear mounted spare, it was only standard on some models. Not all cars have spare wheels these days & not really room for one on some modern compact SUVs.
we have a 2.2 auto rav4 the weight of it,from the v5 is 1710kg and we tow a pegasus Verona with a mtplm of 1490 kg with no problem at all.the rear door does open from the side but you can get limited access to the Boot when the caravan is attached.there is no wheel carrier on our backdoor and no spare tyre only sealant.cheers John.
