Andy, you mentioned towing a heavy trailer as well as the caravan, what weight is the trailer when loaded?

At a guess, about 2.0 to 2.5 tons.

Though on consideration I've probably got closer to 3.5 somtimes, as I know I've had 3tons of aggregate in it.

...... and SB thinks a Skoda would be able to tow that safely???

...... you either need to concentrate on proper full size 4x4,s or find a way of severely restricting the load in your trailer. Even then some full size 4x4's will have a lower tow limit then 3500kg.

When someone mentioned low 20's mpg for a 4.0L petrol engine, to me that sounds rather good, as I am used to those sort of mpg from a 2.5L diesel in the Rangie.

To be fair to Bob I didnt mention the trailer issue at first. Thats originally why I ended up with the LWB Patrol.

It can handle the trailer without probs. I did a check on mpg towing the caravan a couple of months ago, came out at 22 mpg not bad for 4.2 diesel.

So a comparable petrol vehicle is going to cost me a lot more to run, even on LPG that seeems obvious now.

Ah well, just keep repairing the damn thing for another year or two.
