Hi all, I am trying to sort out my towing limits. I have looked at the plate on my car. It gives:-
Gross vehicle weight 1835
Gross train weight 2555
My problem is I don't know which of these is the kerb weight.
Please can someone enlighten me?

If you look on your V5c look for "mass in service", this is near enough to kerb weight, but not always accurate.

Or refer to your handbook.

Neither of those is the kerb weight. The Gross Vehicle Weight is the max permitted weight of the car when fully loaded and the Gross Train Weight is the max permitted weight of the car plus trailer/caravan. If you haven't got the V5 yet have a look at the Parkers website, it seems to be fairly accurate.

Having said all that the kerbweight nowadays has no part to play in any law. Soany approximate figure will do to let you calculate the towing ratio. If you look on this site much of the data is very accurate. http://www..talktalk.net

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Hi rob and tina, had a look and if I understood it right, the kerb weight is 1316kg. The caravans mtplm is 750kg. So think it should be quite good.

The weights you quote are from older model Focus 1.6auto, yes? Brochure pdf here gives kerbweight as 1286kg & max braked tow weight as 800kg. Towbar download(noseweight)is 75kg.

My car is a focus 1.6 zetec automatic petrol 2011. I think the weights I looked at were for the newer model. The model changed just after mine. It is a 5 door. Don't know if the brochure is for the brand new model or if there is any difference. I have downloaded it thankyou!!!!

Yes. Click the link for the brochure pdf, that is for the older model, pre '11. That matches the weights you quoted in op so assume weights I posted are correct for your car. That is Ford brochure for pre '11 Focus so will be accurate.

I think a few people may have missed the fact that yours is an auto, which seems to make a big difference to the limits.

The new brochure will bear no relevance to your model!

The tow weight for op's car is 800kg as indicated both in Ford UK brochure & the matching site linked to also confirms this in this case, albeit for a non UK spec car. So not missed by myself or the op, presumably?

As pointed out in other threads, car/caravan matching sites that are non UK based & refer to non UK spec cars do not necessarily provide accurate information for UK caravanners.
