Does anyone on here tow with a current model astra 2.0 cdti hatch?
Thinking of changing my 1.9cdti vectra for one. Caravan mtplm is 1250kg so the weight is ok, but I just wondered how people get on towing with smaller car?
If the weight is ok I doubt you will have any problems with the power . I'm pretty sure the Astra 2.0 is the same engine as my insignia 2.0 had . If so plenty of power on tap 160hp will get things moving pretty briskly. The biggest problem I had with my insignia was getting traction on damp grass I had to be rescued on several occasions on wet rally fields. However towing on tarmac was great , effortless with decent economy . Just two things to watch out for DMF failures and DPF problems but these effect most modern diesels and are seen on other makes / models .
Yes an auto does away with DMF issues for sure ! You will loose a bit on the economy but will be a relaxed trip . Surprised they covered you under warranty on your vectra I thought they were normally excluded ?
Modern autos are are direct shift type with dmf which can give better mpg than manual, dunno about long term reliability, VW had trouble with their's. New Astra has dsg auto. I don't think any current autos are old type torque converter now due to poor fuel consumption.

The vectra was 2 years old when I bought it and i bought an extra 2 year warranty that ran on after the initial manufacturers 3 year one ran out, and it was the exteded one we claimed on. It's not something I would have usually done at about £500, but in this case it paid for itself easily. Car had FVSH and about 50k miles when it happened.
