Go for it. Caravanning seems to be one of the last outposts of sexism! Honestly, I still can't get over how many women are amazed that I tow a caravan on my own. The men say "good on you" it's the women who say "I could never do that". What nonsense girls! My son was 13 when we got our first caravan and we learned most of what we know from these forums. It's so easy and such fun. Have a go, you will never look back and the great members of this site will answer any questions you have for free, as they did for me! 10 years of towing behind me, even gone as far of Switzerland solo with my kids and it is the easiest thing in the world. Enjoy!

I towed for 3 or 4 years after my husband died, I was determined not to waste our lovely caravan. I eventually sold it and bought a campervan but often wonder if I did the right thing.

The first thing I did was get a motor mover fitted, which was worth every penny.

The only minor problem I had was checking the brake lights at the back of the caravan. If my neighbour was around, I got her to check them but, if not, I had a friend cut a piece of wood long enough to press against the brake pedal and wedge against the front of the driver's seat so I could run round the back and check the brake lights.

You'll be fine and you'll probably actually quite enjoy it.

"What a mess" yes that is the one thing if you don't have anyone else there, it is kind of tricky to test lights. a friend of mine uses a heavy brick just for that purpose when she goes off alone. That is probably the most lifting she does, though, as she has got an Eriba!

Pleased to see you ladies are not frightened to have a go at towing. Us fellas can get nervous for the first few times as well(but don't like to admit to it)! but like anything else it gets easier the more you tow.Good advice earlier regarding the movers to help hitching up. It's just a case of gaining confidence and experience.Check the loading is right of course and don't be shy when asking for advice, everyone will help..Good luck ladies, Go for it!

I started towing 45 years ago with a small trailer to carry the camping gear. Then we had a trailer tent and of course moved to a caravan. My husband doesn't drive so if we wanted to go anywhere then it was up to me. We now have a motor mover but I admit its his job to guide me when it needs hitching and also to set the van up on site.

Go for it, My Mum is 67 and still tows her sprite now, she has been all over Europe, although she stays in the uk these days as she prefers to stay in Cornwall. Can agree that a mover is money well spent as mum can position her van in tight spots on her own!
Still looks weird seeing a van drive on its own via a remote control
