We have just purchased a Mondeo titanium x with reversing camera and parking sensors. I prefer to have a fixed tow bar but will this interfere with the parking sensors

Not normally. The sockets or any backplate may though.

The issue is most towbar companies/fitters will say it may affect the sensors to cover themselves.

The answer is no, the towball itself won't interfere with reversing sensors but like Grampian91 has said, it's the incorrect positioning of the electrical sockets that's more likely to be detected. I have a stainless steel 'L' shaped bracket bolted to the towbar under the rear bumber so it's position does not affect any of the inner rear parking sensors.

y no only when van is on cant switch mine off .dont no if you can on yer mondeo .if can switch it off when reversing cos does my napper in .

If u get the expensive ford wiring kit it will switch off the sensors when the electrics are plugged in.
I got a detachable for my mondeo est and the sensors sometimes pick it up when the bar is in situ.
I must admit I did prefer a fixed bad but since having a detachable I do like not crackin me shins on it!

We have an Smax with a fixed Witter bar and even though we have the dedicated Ford electrics the sensors do pick the tow ball up occasionally, especially if i have not put the cover back on.

I think if you dont have the dedicated wiring then the car is not programmed to ignore the tow bar. It also tuens the sensors off when the van is attached to the car.

The dedicated wiring disables the reverse sensors when you have something plugged in. Not when solo.

Disabling the reverse sensors when not hitched will render them useless.

Get a small box or something similar size to a fitted towball and see if your sensors detect that.

Something like a large cornflake box and a smaller thinner cereal box taped together then tape to the bumper and see if its detected.

Or if you have ever watched Bluepeter you can make a comp0lete towbar out of cardboard and sticky back plastic to test it.
