we have a Peugeot 407.. 2.0L 136hp that weighs about 1500kg.

I have been looking at a Vauxhall 1700. estate. 110hpweighs 2000kg.

they are both diesels.what is the difference and? which can tow better?

Vauxhall 1700 estate?

Again without the exact model, spec gearbox type and engine power. Nobody can answer that reliably.

An automatic car may have a tow limit much less than a manual car. One or two exceptions where some autos can tow more.

2000kg with 110bhp will be a low bhp/ton when towing a caravan.

What will tow better will depend on the gearing also.

Its possible that a car with less power can tow better if the gear ratios are mopre suited to towing.

A car geared to do 150mph may struggle in top gear compares to a lower powered car geared for a top speed of 110mph.

Not quite correct

If the manufacturer has stated a max towing capacity then exceeding that can be prosecuted under C&U reg 100 in a court of law should it be deemed unsafe

Insurance companies will often void insurance if a listed max towing capacity has been exceed





As you seem to be a mine of information, can you point me towards the legislation as how can it be unsafe if within the gross train weight? Surely the maximum towing weight is also a guideline set by the manufacturer?

Any prosecution under that reg is done in court because it is subjective

Thanks but still cannot fathom out how they could bring a successful prosecution if towing above the manufacturer's recommended maximum towing weight but within the gross train weight?

SAFETY or rather an unsafe combination as well as putting undue strain on various components which have not been designed to take such
