Can somebody very simply (for a very simple person) tell me whether the above 7seater will be ok to tow an Elddis Avante 636 (2006) twin axle? I'm getting myself all in a tizzy that I've done my sums wrong and Maths was never my strong point. Or even my mediocre point!

You need B+E categories on your licence if you are over 3500kg gross train weight. I don't know what Class 1 includes but if he passed the car test before 1997 E would be on the car licence anyway.
Have a look on the weight plate on the car. It should give the max gross weight of the car and the max train weight so you can calculate the max trailer weight possible. A caravan with a max weight (MTPLM) of 85% of the car kerb weight is recommended for beginners but I expect he already has towing experience.
Yeah he passed before 1997 and drives an articulated lorry of huge dimensions for a living. I think we should be ok. Phew! :0)
