Sat nav is great as long as you know it's limitations. I would not follow the instructions to get to a caravan site, I trust the book more. If it says I am in the middle of a field then the map needs upgrading, but they do quite a good job of basic route planning, they are useful in towns that are completely new to me.
I also find that set to a max speed of 50mph it gives me a very very accurate time of artival. I llike the readouts that tell me how far to the next turning that I must consider, and I quite like the speed readout which generally gives a more accurate reading than the speedo when on a long flat piece of road. What the speed on the satnav does is give me a digital guide to the speed I am travelling so that i can repeat the speed again.
I do not exceed speed limits so the only thing I consider when driving is the speedo to keep me within the speed limits, in that respect what the satnav says is irrelevant

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

back now and got 27.4 mpg on the way back ,the long uphill stretch from leeds to the summit point dragged fuel consumption down. steady 55-60mph all the way so it averages out at around 28mpg which is within the realms of credibility ,my previous car was a picasso 1.6tdi and i only got 35mpg out of that towing the same van (whirlwind vogue not whisp) so taking the price differential of petrol and diesel into account theres not a lot of difference ,and probably works out cheaper once you factor in diesel servicing .
yes i did notice the difference on hills but we still got up them and the whole point of my original post was to highlight the fact that a diesel is not always needed .thats not to say that i won't go back to diesel but as a o.a.p its a limited budget

Dont be afraid to use those revs. Dropping a gear and bringing the revs upto around 4000rpm wont kill it.

Maximum torque is produced at around 4000 - 4500rpm. So it will be in its power zone.

On a steep hill i would drop down to 3rd gear. I would rather drop down early and use more revs than have to change gear whilst on the hill and slowing.
