Grampian, Kia have just confirmed what you say. The 1600kg is for the lowest spec model ...mine ,the 1754kg is for the top if the range model with all extras fitted.
However, this raises another question.
In terms of technical spec,ie suspension ,engine ,etc ,the lowest and highest spec models are identical. But by Kia adding extra weight to the base model increases the Kerbweight ,so if I put 100kg of luggage in my car will that make the Kerbweight 1700kg for working out the car to caravan ratio?
Work the ratio out on what you have forget about adding bits on for this that or the other, if when you work out the towing ratio it works out in the range you want it to then fine just forget it, in the end it is irrelevant. You know the car tows well, you know the car weighs more than the van, you know the car and van are within all the legal limits forget about the minutiae and enjoy your trips.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
