I currently have the latest Galaxy and when it goes back next year for replacement, I'm thinking of having an S Max rather than another Galaxy. Looking at the Towsure product codes, it seems that its the same towbar and electrics so hopefully my dealer can just get the bar and electrics swapped over. I've made an informal enquiry with the local Ford dealer but they weren't that knowledgable, so does anyone here know if I'm right? The electrics are dedicated twin.
Forget the Towsure codes because if there is an error in the print they won't be held accountable. The way to find out for definite is to contact a local Ford dealer and ask what the part number is for the year of manufacture and model the Galaxy towbar is as they should have a parts identification list for every accessory part they sell. Don't ask about the S-Max as they will get suspicious that you are having the work carried out independently. Phone a different Ford dealer and ask the same question about the S-Max and see if the numbers are identical. What you have to remember is that models can vary and the fixing mountings for a towbar may differ so the model is important too.
Ford can do it because I had a similar question back in 2001 with a Vauxhall Astra estate and asked if a pair of genuine roof bars will fit the Zafira with factory fitted roof rails. The salesman said, "The best thing to do is bring them down and see if they will fit". I replied and asked him to look in hiss accessory identification list for both vehicles and Bingo! the part numbers were exactly the same. Amazing how a customer tells a salesman how to do his job.
