We're on our second Sportage, the first a 56 plate, followed by an 09 plate now - fantastic car for towing (towing 1500kg van), and great solo - my only comment is that it is a little bit thirsty.
Watch the towing weights on the Tucson - for some reason they seem lower than the Sportage, never understood why.
We have a 56 plate manual Kia Sorento towing a Bailey Senator California 1495kg. We are very pleased with it and have experienced no problems at all in the year we have had it. A brilliant towcar but as you would expect from a big vehicle like this, it is quite thirsty.

Ehhhhh...........the OP's query was about the Tucson/Sportage!!
If you check the specs for both of these vehicles you will be surprised by the lack of power that the Hyundai Tucson has in comparison to the Kia Sportage. The Tucson 2.0i diesel only has 105 bhp which is less than a Ford Focus 1.6 diesel which has 109 bhp so in comparison it's not a good choice at all in my view. A mate of mine bought one two years ago and although he said it's a lot much better towing vehicle than his previous estate car in terms of stability he has had two bent valves on separate occasions and each time was towing his 4 berth caravan. He now regrets buying the vehicle but if he had done his homework first he probably would have chosen a better towcar as there are much better towing vehicles on the market. Some people think that because it's a 4x4 it's designed for towing but this is not always the case as the Toyota RAV 4 is basically very much the same.
Hi , I tow our 2014 Coachman 545 with our 2006 Sportage ,the mtplm of van is 1600+ but in reality i tow it at 1550 with nose weight at 75kgs , pulls like a train 6th gear on motorways at 2000rpm equates to 60mph .
I have had MAD springs fitted to the rear which have improved the comfort of the tow immensely , so this is a mod I would recommend .
So Yes I would certainly recommend the KIA Sportage 2.0l CRDI 6speed manual box , 170 bhp .
Hey tango55 dont diss the RAV4 our MkII Rav D-4D tows our 4 berth van quite well (MTPLM 1350) only problem is the towing height we need to sort this out!
My son has the Hyundai and tells me that Hyundai own Kia but chose the Hyundai due to the fact a service for the Hyundai is £100 Cheaper and common parts on both vehicles are dearer if bought at Kia. He lives within 2/3 miles of both main agent franchises in Staffs.

We had a 56 plate Tucson. Certainly NOT 105bhp, about 139bhp springs to mind. Anyway a good towcar.
