I bought my Santa Fe new and love it. It has been a brilliant car with virtually no issues until now. On the way back from the New Forest the emmissions light came on but still running okay for last 30 miles. Went to unhitch the van to find it covered in oil. I've taken it to the garage and it turns out it is transmission fluid and they need to remove the gearbox to work out what the problem is. Keeping everything crossed it is covered on the warranty or looking at £400 labour and a new box is £3500!!!
James A114, I remember us mentioning our new cars on here 4 years ago. I have had a recall and no other problems with mine (just changed it a couple of weeks ago)however, with my experience with Hyundai you should have no issues with the problem being sorted under warranty.
Cheers Jaqugra, it will be good to know when they confirm it is covered. I have rechecked the handbook and I have followed everything correctly regarding weights, servicing etc so should be okay.

Orangy? That close enough to red for me...
So I hazard a guess (I hope) it's only a leaky cooler pipe.
Before you took it to the garage, did you get a chance to work out if possible where the oil came from by any drip marks on the ground??
My mate who is a mecahnic had a look at it to ensure I hadn't damaged anything obvious that could invalidate the warranty and without removing the bottom plate he reckoned it was a split pipe feeding back to the engine but obviously couldn't see without jacking it up etc. He was a little surprised when they said gear box.
The gearbox is out at last and the seal behind the torque converter has gone, so they have ordered a new gearbox but hyundai want to come and inspect it first, mainly to see if it needs a new oil cooler as well. Good news is it is all covered under warranty and fingers crossed i should have it back for the 20th in time for the Tour de france weekend
