I have a 2013 auto diesel and get 32 on shorter runs (20miles) , Not yet done the sort of run you mention but I would expect to get at least 36 mpg. We live in a hilly area. Sorry not a direct comparison.
Hi i have the 2010 auto i get around 27 town driving.34 mixed driving. The engine and auto box are fantastic lots of power. But i do not get anywhere near the figures that hyundia state. From your post i think it would be a bit heavy on diesel for you.Luckly i dont use mine for commuting.

I have 2010 auto and get 38 on dual carriageway but very careful driving. Normal motorway journeys would be 32/33, around town i get 30 usually.
My commute is 12 miles so doesn't really matter but not sure I would go so big with a 75 mile commute. Could the other half have the 4x4 type is they have a shorter commute and you get a eco thing!
Hi thanks for the replies - looks like it may be too thirsty for my commute. I've already tried the idea of getting my wife to drive the car on a day to day basis - her commute is only 5 miles - but that's a non starter - she thinks her Fiesta is a big car :(
Have monitored my consumption ever since buying my 2012 (12 plate) 5-seat Santa Fe Premium Auto. I use an app called Road Trip - very useful.
I bought the car in February 2013 and to date it is averaging 31.8 mpg. This includes all commuting (40 miles a day) and towing our Bailey Pegasus around.
I rarely exceed 60 mph and on long motorway trips it will return between 37 and 40 mpg. Take out the towing and just using it for commuting and average weekend use I get around 34 mpg.
Last year we spent 3 weeks in the Dordogne, towing the caravan down from County Durham via Dover/Calais and on to Sarlat. Consumption worked out at 24 mpg for the whole 3 weeks (2,100 miles). Worst was around 20 mpg towing the van up some very long hills in the hilly country between Calais & Rouen and in Limousin. It recovered to around 33mpg driving around the hills of the Dordogne without the van.
For a 1900kg car, I think the fuel consumption is pretty good. You would get more out of a manual but I've been driving autos for the last 9 years and have gotten lazy. Plus they make towing a doddle. Get to 60, activate the cruise control and put yer feet up - lovely! My last car was a Land Rover Discovery 3 and average consumption was around 24 mpg so the SF is miles better.
My Santa Fe shows 35 .3 mpg with mainly mixed trips over 5 miles. No towing. How accurate the indicator is I have not yet established - probably on the generous side as these things usually are.
