Got 3k budget to buy a towcar. I only have a light van but might upgrade at some stage.
I need a car that will give at least 3yrs/65k of fairly trouble free motoring due to financial reasons.
Used vectra 1800 petrol fits the bill, I can get a low mile 07/08 plate which seems good value. Don't think I can find a good diesel car for that money.
Anybody towed with this engine before, its 140hp so should be OK. I currently use a 120hp zafira DSL.
Vectra and Mondeo both sold by the thousands so tend to be cheaper than other cars.
Whats a light van? Towing with a petrol after a diesel will seem a bit strange. The petrols peak torque will be around 4000rpm instead of under 2000rpm for the diesel.
I preferred the Mondeo over the Vectra, Better seats in my opinion but you may think otherwise.
Go on auto trader put your postcode in and see what comes up when you put in max budget, you should be able to get a fairly decent diesel for that amount, try skoda fabia, tdi
try a skoda octavia tdi or petrol one were i live 05/05 octavia 2litre tdi pd elegance fsh 125000 miles estate with leather .alloys .heated seats .tow bar £2995
Skoda Fabia 1.9 tdi or Octavia 1.9 tdi will both tow your van the Fabia will return 40 towing and around 70 solo, these 1.9 tdi engines are good for 500,000 miles or more, as long as the oil is changed every 10,000
There are loads on auto trader look for a clean one with service history and before buying make sure the timing belt and water pump are changed
Well after much hunting I have bought a vectra petrol. Only 46k with full dealer history with a warranty for £3k. I know a diesel is better for towing but didn't want a high miler. The car is 140 HP so it should tow OK (I hope).
