Ccc do their ordinary recovery cover through the RAC but it includes European cover, probably the cheapest way
.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Most ordinary car based breakdown recovery services will only recover a caravan if it is attached to the car at the time .so if ,as I was ,you are sight seeing with the van back on site when the car broke down you may find that the recovery service will not pick up or recover the caravan.
Also if the recovery cost exceeds the market value of the car they will not recover the car or the van.
so Red pennant or the C&CC Europe cover is far superior as they will bring both you & the van home
How ever Britannia say they will recover both as they consider car & caravan as a unit. unfortunately this is not actually written in their terms & conditions
personally I would not tow abroad without Red Pennant
& I was a member of Britannia & ADAC at the time of my breakdown in Spain it was red pennant that actually got the car & van home . Spanish Garage estimated cost of repair was 7800 euro (cost of repairs in UK £1100) & the cars market value was (in their opinion) £750
so If I did not have RP the car & caravan would not have been repatriated to the uk & it could have cost me a couple of thousand pounds to get them home
