I am travelling up the A9 next week enroute to Kinlochewe and am thinking of a fuel stop in Inverness. I am looking at two options, the Tesco Xtra on the "Inshes Retail Park" just of the Raigmore Hospital junction and an ESSO garage on Longman road in front of B&Q which also looks OK. Anyone who has used either of these have any preferences they can recommend?
When we go any long distance with the van, we always plan the route, and find out where the nearest filling stations are off the motorway.
You will be surprised to learn that just by going a mile off, you can save as much as 20 pence a litre.
So try to avoided the motorway services, at all costs, but if you cannot, just put enough in to get you to the next big town.
If you have a smartphone, Tesco and Asda, have apps showing there store locations, Morrisons and Sainsburys may also have them but there is always good old google
Inshes Tesco has one lane marked for caravans, really quite tight access on the others. The Esso station is an easy one although you will have to travel past it then double back at the next roundabout.
When you come down into Inverness, if you turn right onto the A96 heading for Aberdeen, there is a large Tesco on the right which will save a lot of trouble, or left heading into the Town centre there is a Morrisons, cheapest fuel usually.
A quick thanks from me to everyone who replied to the OP. We're travelling Dunbar->Inverness as part of our 3 week trip later this year and the info is handy. I'd forgotten about the BP at Pitlochry which is odd given how many times we stayed in the town before we bought the caravan
