Hi all,i have just got a 54 plate xsara picasso 2ltr hdi,the dash is very dim, from what i can see,the adjuster is to the right next to the mirror adjuster,is this correct?i have tried to alter brightness with this but didn't make any difference.Had a look on ebay at switches, and some are selling the same switch as fog light switch. How would i get the dash brighter?thanks

You are correct that is the adjuster you just have to keep holding it until it goes brighter but they don't go very bright and when you wear sunglasses you can't see the display hardly at all without straining.

I have a similar vehicle and suspect it is not the switch but that several of the small pea bulbs that illuminate the dash have failed. They seem to go very frequently and I buy boxes of 10 from ebay they are 12v, 1.2w, MWB. The dash cover simply eases out uses a small screwdriver and then remove the 2 torque screws holding the panel in and then replace the bulbs, easiest I find using a pair of long nosed pliers.

all sorted, there are 8 capless bulbs in the back of the dash,6 had blown, went to Halfords, they charge £2 each,so got 5 from there then went to The Range, they have them for £1 for 2,so got a few packs, probably wont be as good, but can change them 4 times for the same price as Halfords.
So,to change, you need a small flathead screwdriver to get the outer cover off the dash,be careful,as the colour comes off the corners easily, put screwdriver in one of the sides, and twist, which should release the cover, only held in by 2 lugs.then you need a number 20 star bit to remove the dash,1 either side, remove the bolts, get your fingers over top of module, slant it forward and carefully pull it forward, twist so you can see back of it,now you will need some small grips/pliers,longer nose best, twist the caps anticlockwise and remove the bulb holders, mine are white, hold the cup,and pull the bulbs out,and replace as needed, then reverse the process to finish,5 mins tops, and you will have a nice clear dash.
