First trip towing the van with my outlander 2.2d, very pleased returned 25mpg up to Durham then on to York and back to the midlands.
Plenty of power on the inclines ,top gear on the motorways and great from 0 to 60 when pulling out.
Hill starts no problem and if needed you can change to 4 wheel drive.
I would highly recommend them

Ssssssh! You don't want everyone buying one, they'll be as common as Qashqais if you do. Don't know how heavy your caravan is, but I'm disappointed if I get less than 33mpg towing.

Yes we'll keep it to ourselves...
I was a little disappointed with the mpg, the vans laden weight is 1387kg ,the car is 1747kg ish would've hoped for high 20's but it pulls the van no problem so I'm happy

Should have asked if you had bought the right car you could have got 35 plus MPG towing

I actually got 37mpg towing our caravan down to Italy. Compared to the Yeti I know I got the right car.

oops! sssh!

I have the same engine (2.2)in my new ASX mated to an auto box. Haven't towed with it yet, but fuel consumption is very similar to the 1.8 engine, so I'm hopeful it will do about the same towing.

Believe it or not, apparently there are people out there - fools they may be - that buy their cars to use for tasks other than towing and to brag about the fuel economy.....

I've even come across people who've bought a car just because - and this simply beggars belief - they actually like it! Outrageous behaviour!

Mmmm - I'm a bit envious now.

The Outlander - along with the last of the 'old' X-Trail models - was one that we considered before recently buying the Tiguan

I was swayed by the many glowing towing reports on the Tiguan, but have to say that I'm disappointed with it.

It's the 140ps 4-motion variant - power is no problem, but it feels unstable to me, despite checking and re-checking just about everything I can think of.

This might be down to our Alutech van - there have certainly been a lot of reports about about Alutech instability.

Not that the Tiguan seems particularly stable solo! - I can see why it earned the nickname,'Tigger', from some owners, as it does tend to hop around a bit ;) (or perhaps 'Roo' would be more apt)

Towing MPG is nothing to write home about, either (27mpg) but solo mpg is something of a saving grace at around 50 mpg.

All in all, though, I can't help thinking that I chose unwisely.

It depends on what you compare it against .... I only get 22-29mpg from the Rangie solo ........ would I change it for a Skoda?? .. not a chance in hell.

I much prefer the height and width of the Rangie, plus the fact the parts are very cheap and it only cost me £1700 in the first place, the tax is exactly the same as any other car with a 1600cc+ engine.
