Just got our detachable towbar and 13pin (with 12v line) fitted to our Honda CRV, just popped to the van to test before our 2 week trip on Monday and everything works apart from the reverse light and I am unsure if its charging the battery on the caravan, I tested the fridge and while the power switch was on caravan the fridge showed electrical power so guess I was getting full power to the caravan from the car. Anyone else had this issue?? I have tested the 7 pin connector onto another car with 7 pin connector and reverse works fine?? grr
Hi Simon, have a look at the wiring diagram on this link, power for reverse should be on pin 8 with pin3 as the earth return for it. I don't think the car electrics charge up the van battery any more, only power to the fridge when engine running about 2000 revs.

If it is a dealer fit towbar and wiring, are you sure it is
wired for caravan use? The car may be fitted with a 13pin socket but could be only
wired for road lighting, which would not include 12v power to charge battery, fridge
and caravan reversing lights. Dealer did it with my Skoda until I spoke to the fitter
(external, he was not told it was for a caravan), he then came to my house and
wired up correctly, put on his test board to confirm everything worked.
what other use would it have, i thought it was standard wiring for all vehicles, is it not as above pin 8 for reverse and pin 10 for charging or fridge or both if capable ?
Cost cop-out really Simon. The wiring for the towing a trailer was pretty easy to fit as they were all lighting wires and generally readily available in the boot. The extra wiring needed for the the rest involve a lot more work/time running a supply to the battery and ignition and costs a lot more to do properly. I had this arguement with my Honda dealer when I said I wanted the whole lot connected for towing a caravan & not just lights.

Back to Honda on Thursday but just checked my paperwork and we did pay extra for the 12v line which is an additional cost to the normal wiring loom fitted by Honda
The litle tinkers, They will try it on and see what they can get away with. Silly really coz it's their reputation that they are messing up. Hope it's all sorted in the end with no more inconvenience to you, good job you noticed.
