any ideas what I can do,as just sent my licence off on tuesday 29th...... doh! then i found this thread..spooky!
as i have motorbike licence & caravan, and i'm over 70.
should i contact them???
Contacting them may just confuse them more. I would wait until your licence is returned and check it.
after reading this post I decided to check my licence too. I still have my old paper one issued in 1985 which I intend to keep hold of until I'm 70 in December 2034. Its clean by the way and always has been. Its very confusing understanding all the categories etc but I did make a discovery I found quite alarming when looking things up on the 'net. It seems that with a vehicle under 3.5 tons its only legal to tow a trailer up to 7 metres long. If that's the case I've been towing illegally for the last eight years. I have a Mondeo estate and a single axle Swift Charisma that is 7.07metres long. Its well within weight etc. but I now discover its too long. I wonder how many other people this applies to. I suspect an awful lot.
We have a twin axle caravan that is nearly 8m long externally, so must be more than 7m long internally. So I am confused as to what will be needed when OH reaches 70. Can anyone tell me please? He has B, BE, C1, C1E, D1, plus some letters. Can't actually see anything about length mentioned, only weight.

Hard luck, but within the next 4 years you will have to replace your paper licence with a photo type. They will be the only ones accepted by Law!

I reckon I qualify for great grandfathers rights as I still have my old red licence issued in 1956!

Funnily enough, I came across mine only the other day when having a sort-out. Not quite as old as yours, but it was issued in 1966.
I already have copies of both parts of my licence scanned into my computer, and printed off in case my computer packs up. I have to renew my PCV (PSV) entitlement next year, and have annual medicals to keep it. I have D+E entitlement on that, so I don't want to lose it, as I've had that since 1972!
Sorry everybody...duff information!! It is DSA and VOSA who have merged..that is the driving standards agency and not dvla as I originally stated. Doesnt change anything..they will still have a chunk of your licence away if you dont watch them
My latest driving licence has, among its list of categories BE but, when looking on the Driving Licence Categories website, it is shown as B+E.
Not much difference by itself but, knowing how they have cocked things up in the past, could this be another platform waiting to bring grief to holders of this category? Only needs some Jobsworth to mix things up!!!
Bertie.

Not seen this advertised anywhere? Nearest thing I could find was driving abroad where it was "advised" to have a photo licence but wasn't compulsory. Could you expand on this information please?
