GTM or GTW is the second from top of the 4 weights on the weight plate hidden in your vehicle usually under the bonnet or in a door frame

The top figure of 4 is the GVW
The bottom 2 figures are the axles


There is no mass in service figure on that weight plate

It is not a new law at all, been there ages.

The GTW of the Freelander 2 is 4505kgs

So if you tow anything, repeat "anything", in France the over 3500kgs GTW speed limits clearly apply to you.

The requirement to display the 80/90 stickers might be open to debate, with the possible recovery of any on the spot fines via your MEP. Countless local and foreign towed vehicles don’t bother and “get away with it”

I do clip-on a 80/90 sticker board; my main reason is to inform those following me why I am a pain in the neck creeping along. It also saves me arguing points of EU law in not my mother tongue.

However, I take a pragmatic view and travel along with the lorries, unless it is self evident the authorities are standing there checking my speed.

Referring to the breathalyser mention..I think this has recently been stopped and you are no longer required to carry 2 of them. The friendly french police had a great money-making racket going on.You arrive at Calais..first gendarme asks you to blow into 1 of your 2 disposable gizmo,s..fine -no problem-on your way sir---you now only have 1 gizmo left..His mate is expecting you at the first toll booth soon knowing you are only carrying 1..thats against the law sir--on the spot fine for you sir --thankyou--enjoy your holiday!!

That is a load of rubbish it never was the law to carry 2!

Its not hard to work out....carry one-use it and you no longer have one.1-1=0
Carry two-use one and you still have one. 2-1=1
The french police official line was "carry at least one" and at the time of introduction--01/07/2012--they planned to implement checks at ferry ports and eurotunnel. The planned fine of 11 euro was delayed until 1/11/12 due to limited availability of kits.I may have been a little wide of the mark quoting"against the law" but if the french police suggested carrying at least one--that means they want you to carry two.Obviously-being an expert in french traffic regulations and law-you wouldnt have any worries about taking on the gendarmes in their own country----or you could avoid any hassle and buy 2 kits at £2.99 each.Not that it matters now as the law has been suspended.
What I will say though...if I manage to highlight a possible problem..rightly or wrongly.. and a fellow motorist chooses to look into it further and manages to avoid trouble--thats great. It works for me.What I dont do is "rubbish" anything people say without an explanation.We arent all EXPERTS..some of us just try to be helpful
As regards never being implemented..does anybody know different?

You have got your facts wrong the French law requires one unused one to be carried, not at least 1, and they are intended for self testing not for use by the Gendarmerie!
Far from being helpful it just makes people who may be
apprehensive even more so and may unnecessarily put them off travelling to France if they believe the Police to be so corrupt.
No we aren't all experts and unless posters are certain of their facts they shouldn't post idle rumours!
