Don't follow the direct route from Newtown to Llandrindod and Builth,as John's comment is correct.
Follow the A483 south of Newtown, so going straight on at the traffic lights by Lidl, then join the A470 at Caersws level crossing, going south passing LLanidloes, Rhayader and Builth.
Continue on the A470 south of Builth and follow the signs to Brecon. On the outskirts of Brecon join the A40 south to Crickhowell.
I live here and this is the route we regularly take with the caravan.
