Hi just bought my first caravan need a little advice bought a old caravan to try it, it is now ready for its first trip had everything checked to make sure it is safe just a little unsure about the tyre pressure in the caravan tyres and the rear tyres in the car been told they have to be a little higher than norm any advice would be appreciated

Some vital info missing.

Caravan tyre size? Caravans gross weight?

Your cars handbook will have the normal tyre pressure and what to inflate them to when fully loaded or running at high speed.

Thank you for your reply my tyre size is 155R 13C Caravan weight 875 kg
There was no handbook with the caravan I have tried to get one online but cannot find one I think it is because it is a older caravan

Thank you for the licence advice I have started towing later in life so have held a licence for many years

If it is any help   we have 185/70 R13 and a caravan weight of 900 kg. The advised pressure is 3 bar

Hi My van is Unladen Weight 870kgs or 1045kgs MTPLM but I have light truck tyres with Tyron bands on and put 48psi on the advice of the tyre fitter.

Caravans tyres pressures: 42PSi should be correct for that weight.

thank you for your help have put in 42 psi the tyre profile now looks better and the caravan rolls easier when moving it by hand

I looked into this for my tyres. The tyre will have a max pressure and max load and the max pressure was that which was quoted in our caravan handbook. For my van, this was 65 psi, but that would be for 900kg on each tyre. There are tables you can find on line that show inflation pressure dependent upon the load placed on them. My van is 1300kg, so this max pressure resulted it being very bouncy when towing, so I reduced it to 55 psi and this was much better.   The car handbook gives the pressures to use for max load/towing and I use these for the car tyres.

A 1300kg van the max pressure is probably closer to 45psi.

The tyre manufacturer doesnt know what your fitting it to so put the max safe pressure for the tyre.

That will usually be a serious overkill for most applications.

My van is around 1200kg loaded and it states 45psi for the 175 13 tyres, for the car look in the handbook, I would go for the max loaded pressure.
