Hi.
If the caravan is less than 25/30 years old it will have a system whereby the brakes are automatically released when you reverse.
So in answer to your question, no, you do not need to do anything.
Very old caravans had a system where you had to get out of the car and move a lever to stop the brakes applying.
If you have an Al-Ko however you do need to ensure that your tow ball is compatible otherwise you risk the caravan becoming detached.
Have a look at the Al-Ko website to check the dimensions.
