hi,we have a 2006 reg ford focus estate ,automatic so what car can we tow, I have tried various sites but they don't seem to have automatics in the list

Find the weight plate in your car - it is likely to be hidden under the bonnet or in a door frame
Please give us the top two of the four figures listed

What licence do you have - B or B+E?

PS - I assume you meant what caravan can we tow not what car !!!

1845 and 2645,and my husband has a driving license that permits him to tow a caravan so that's no problem,he's even had experience with HGV.Yes I did mean caravan,sorry about that

Towing capacity 800 kg

That means the actual weight your car can tow is only 800 kg

That website is Dutch so refers to non UK models. Focus max tow varies according to engine. Do you have a handbook for the car? It should tell max tow weight in there. It is unwise to use internet info from non Ford sources as anything but a guide. Before buying a caravan you need to check actual manufacturer info.

Your model Focus brochure pdf here scroll down to p27 on pdf. A in second left column refers to automatic, find your model & read off max tow weight. Bear in mind though that its best to stick with max caravan weight of around 85% of car kerb weight. Also note that if your car is 1.6 petrol auto estate it has low max tow of only 800kg.

YOU can also tow a caravan on your B (car) licence

Add car GVW to caravan MTPLM and if total not more than 3500 then you are legal for your B licence
