I've just spotted that the Octavia 1.2tsi 105ps is tow car of the year for cars between £16000-20000.

I will be taking delivery of a Rapid 1.2tsi 105ps Greentech around the beginning of December was wondering if there would be a huge difference between the two for towing?

At first glance I can see that the Octavia is 55kgs heavier than the Rapid but other than that I'm not sure what other differences would make the Rapid better or worse for towing. I'm thinking if they have different suspension etc could make a difference but don't know enough about it yet. I'm still reading into it so thought I'd find out a bit more while I'm looking through all the info online.

The Caravan that interests me is the Lunar Ariva and it looks like the Rapid is more than capable of towing this according to the towcar website.

I wouldn't be looking to buy right away but I'd like to think that the car could tow this as I've looked at the Freedom and similar caravans but I'd prefer something a bit larger even though it's only the two of us.

I'm only at the preliminary stages as we have only just begun camping but want to do it right so even if it's next year or the next at least I can work out what would be best.

Thanks in advance

You will find there is very little difference between the two cars engine wise other than engine management tuning.  The general running gear will be the same but the Rapide will be fitted with smaller wheels and different tyres  (easy roll) and sit lower than Octavia

The gearbox ratio,s will also differ and the Rapide will be fitted with stop and start at traffic lights this is all designed to increase MPG no spare wheel just a puncture outfit and air pump fitted in the well where the spare usually fits . This all makes up for your 55kg difference in kerb weight. Oh your Rapide will be slightly shorter in the boot less storage. I have had Skoda cars since 2004 both Green and standard and use a Yeti Greenline as my main car with a Volks Tiguan as my tow car.

Get 1.6 diesel version, nearly double the MPG and virtually no RFL

Thanks everyone so far.

I can't change the engine on it and don't want to as I don't do enough miles to justify the diesel.

If you've happened to have seen the thread over on the Briskoda Forum I've already changed the spec of the car to the extent that the garage had to order me another one.

The original plan was to hold on to the Rapid for ten years or until it went kaput then went onto something larger and a caravan at the same time but I'm thinking about whether we may get bored or fed up camping and want to get the caravan earlier.

Good luck and enjoy your Rapid. I took my Octavia back after 9 months, to Mlada Boleslav Skoda factory and museum, a nice little run!

My local  taxi to Airport  supplier MD Cabs runs a fleet of Skoda Octavia,s the 2002/2003 models have done over 1,000,000 miles and still on the road all diesels. The later models have done over 750,000 miles. couple years ago they purchased 6 Renault,s and got rid after 3 months,                                                                                         Thursday driver from airport tells me they have just purchased 6 tdi  Vauxhall Ensigna,s to add to their 3 stretch limo,s 3 fire engines, Mini buses etc.  I hired a Ensigna when they first came out and it had something like 13 controlls for air con so I just switched to auto and l left it  at that.

Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0TDI 4x4 (2012) would that be (the Scout a Hearse when the back seats were removed.) I owned such a vehicle from Sept 57 to Sept 62 and got £10,000 part x on new Yeti greenline 1.6 TDI Elegence.
