I fit the convex one to the passenger side it gives a wide view of the Caravan which is handy when turning tight corners Flat one drivers side to see overtaking cars etc I put a bit of tape on convex one so I quickly know which one is which
When we caravanned I used convex on both sides and found that is what suited me. Whilst its true that a flat mirror gives a more accurate view it also gives a narrower view which is not so good on motorways when you need to overtake. Another deciding factor is what sort of mirrors does you car have. Many modern cars have convex mirrors, easy to tell just hold the straight edge of a credit card against the surface of the mirror.

Convex gives you a distorted image and makes things look further away than the really are.
Flat gives you a true image.
I use both the normal car door mirrors and the caravan mirrors whilst towing, and found that it was easier to use the flat mirrors when looking between the two. I suppose it depends on how convex your car mirrors are, mine seem almost flat.
Of course, you could go by the majority and not bother with extra mirrors at all.....
