Hi everyone, we are looking at buying a new car and van outfit and are considering Vw Touran 1.6 bluemotion manual 2014 reg with a Bailey pursuit 430-4 mtplm 1229kg. The towsafe match says it is a good match providing we are careful with the loading as the Touran has a low noseweight of 75kg.
Realistically, will the 1.6 with bhp of 105 be sufficient to tow this van comfortably?
Does anyone tow with a 1.6 touran (2010 onwards)? How does it perform?
We'd rather not go with a 2.0 litre but will consider it if it really is necessary.

Many thanks in advance for your input.

Hi leon copa, thanks for your reply. We don't really need the 7 seats but we do need a large boot for a mobility scooter. Haven't really looked at the Skoda yeti, it seems quite comparable on paper. Comfort is a huge issue for me as I have a lot of pelvic pain. I will have to try one out.
We have found a Touran with the specs we like at a good price so are trying to make it fit the van I guess.

If you need a large boot, why not look at the Octavia Estate, my 2.0Tdi 4x4 variant has a mass in service of 1,495kg, my van has MTPLM of 1,230kg. The 2014 model is about 50kg lighter. Very comfortable, lots of load space, up to 64mpg solo, towing 33-35mpg.

Thanks for the suggestion Octavia 4x4, correct me if i'm wrong, but is the Octavia estate a very long car. We have a nightmare parking here so are looking for a reasonable length car.
We do really like the Touran as a car, just would like reassurance from anyone with towing experience using the 1.6 engine (2010 onwards). All the information I have found so far is not clear whether it relates to the newer 1.6 or the older less powerful 1.6.
