Our Honda Civic 1.8 v-tec petrol pulls our 750 kg Convertible Caravan plus extras quite well, but would it be capable of towing a caravan of MRO 1036 KG/ MTPLM 1229kg (a small 4 berth,) comfortably please, including up hills. ?
Sorry, but cannot see our car on Honest John's listings, ROG, but Hubby just had a call from the Caravan dealer who said our car can pull up to 1400kg, a little concerned as that is almost twice weight wise what we are pulling at the moment and our old 2008 2Ltr Peugeot 308 diesel use to pull our 750kg Convertible Caravan much better than our 2008 petrol Honda Civic 1.8 car does now.
No we won't be towing that weight if we are doubting it ourselves as we have many steep hills around where we live. We'll just carry on with our 'baby' Convertible Caravan for the time being as it is very roomy inside, it has all mod cons and a toilet and shower room, unfortunately both outdoors.
In a nutshell, the answer is no. You would find it ok on the flat, but would struggle doing hillstarts and keeping up a decent speed on gradients and headwinds. Our last outfit was a Lunar Zenith 4 1045kg laden max towed by a 1.8 vtec petrol 1.8 Honda Civic, it was ok in general at towing theses weights, but when we tried it with our Elddis Avante 462 it simply was not happy, especially on hill starts, and we ended up trading it in for the Honda CRV 2.2 diesel that we have now.

Ah! thanks, good to hear your experiences of towing with the same type car romany girl, not a good idea then.
Hubby has his sights on a bigger size engine Honda at some point, but after having two turbos go within 3 months of each other on the same car we have been put off of buying diesel cars, we lost a lot of money through it unfortunately.

Honda CRV diesel either the cdti engine or the later D-tec are both very good , never heard of a turbo going on either engine .
just traded in a 2009 cdti CRV with 48,000 of which 25,000 was towing and in 5 years NOTHING went wrong , not even a bulb had to be relaced and apart from 1 set of tyres and annual service which was the only expense
Ours is also the 2014 plate CRV 2.2 Neil and we are very pleased with it, the only thing is that in hot weather and when towing on a long journey the tyre pressure warning light tends to come on even though the pressures are correct when checked cold.
Honda are aware of this problem, and a softwear update is due out later this month to rectify the fault, so all owners of this model Honda and also some with the latest top spec Civics will be receiving recall notices from their dealer soon.
