guys
does anyone tow with the above car as there isnt many of these for sale with what i can see and was downgraded power wise for the company car drivers for low tax ect. my van is 1200kg fully laden just wondered if the 115ps mondeo will be man enough for the job i know the mk3 115 is said to be a good towcar even with the low bhp the car has come in the right price bracket just what i wanted to pay with 70000 miles on clock with full ford history.

i am asummising that it will be a dam site better to tow with than my current toyota avensis 2.0 petrol which likes a drink at 22mpg when towing the above van

I have the MK3 and towed my van after a turbo pipe popped off. So less than 115bhp to play with.

Up the hills on the A30 in Cornwall. Keeping the revs low and using the torque. Still faster than the Citroen/Renault thing slowing me down.

hi, i have owned both the older 115bhp ( 06 reg but it was a 2 litre) and the later shape mondeo and they are both good towcars subject to the vans weight of course.

Both mine were 2 litre engines, are you looking at a 1600cc

my experience after owning two, both with 115bhp diesels, they are very good pullers in all gears, but the clutch is quite weak and loads of money to replace. But there is a mod to change these too. I pull near 1400kg and it is fine. Only thing I would change otherwise is front wheel drive, rubbish on mud or wet long grass.

Do the mk4's still suffer the injectors / fuel pump / bottom pulley / dual mass clutch problems?

If not, go for it I think.

DMF is an issue on almost every diesel. Fairly large amounts of torque soon kill them if abused.

Shame they went back to a cambelt though.

1992? 2.5 Diesel, I think several belts.
