Hi all I have a ford ute ( because that is what we call them in Aust) and a 5th wheeler they go together like a normal 5th wheeler set up, they measure 53 feet overall length, I also have a small motor cycle trailer that hooks on the rear of the 5th wheeler and makes the rig overall length 65 feet, this called a triple tow, in 22 of the 50 US states this is legal the other 29 it is not, I am shipping the ute and 5th wheel to Belgium in 2015 for a 2 year holiday I want to bring the motor bike and trailer. Are triple tows allowed in UK and Europe any assistance is appreciated.
thanks Tony

Here is a previous post on the subject, or part thereof, it might be of some use.

My understanding is that only agricultural vehicles (with certain restrictions) an road vehicles classed as locomotives can tow more than one trailer.

If you where to fit a proper bike bracket onto the rear of the trailer so its not in contact with the road it would be legal, as long as it does not interfere with any lighting, if it does a backboard must be fitted with lights and number platehttps://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pictures+of+caravans+with+motorbike+on+the+back&hl=en-GB&rlz=1T4GGHP_en-GBGB547&tbm=isch&imgil=BEhFAvAC2EBoCM%253A%253BE21W6LLpg8l1pM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.caravanersforum.com%25252Fviewtopic.php%25253Ff%2525253D2%25252526t%2525253D38326&source=iu&pf=m&fir=BEhFAvAC2EBoCM%253A%252CE21W6LLpg8l1pM%252C_&usg=__-fC5hEhzfewGwKqVz7FX4Kc1Tv0%3D&biw=1440&bih=773&ved=0CDYQyjc&ei=GZt1VPvcCpH5avTMguAL#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=BEhFAvAC2EBoCM%253A%3BE21W6LLpg8l1pM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fs23.postimg.org%252F4ns3w9j0n%252FDaryl_1_LR.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.caravanersforum.com%252Fviewtopic.php%253Ff%253D2%2526t%253D38326%3B180%3B150

Why not edit that link Bob so the thread is readable again?
How hard is it to do that?

For the op, no your rig would not be legal for normal
use in UK with 2 trailers but you would be ok as just
truck & 5th wheel trailer. I would guess this would be
same in other European countries but you would have to
check laws in those countries to be certain.

Max articulated vehicle length in UK is 16.5meters, just
over 54ft(check this though as there is talk of
increasing length)If it is still 16.5mtres when you
arrive then you would not be able to fit motorcycle rack
on rear of trailer even if axle weight would allow it.

I am sure you have done your own research but UK and many Euro countries have somewhat smaller and windy roads than those in Oz off the main autoroutes so I would suggest you will need to plan your journey carefully?

Have a great trip though

Hi all thanks for the replies, I understand I am limited to 16.5 meters as a 5th wheeler and ute only. The trailer will sold off in the US just before I leave, I will have enough room to get motor cycle rack on the rear, not my first choice, but it is our main method of transport as the size of the ute and 5th wheeler will limited the area we can go ie Devon. thanks to all for the help.
cheers Tony
