Hi Can anyone help. We have a Bailey Senator Arisona which we have had for 4 years and toured the continent, however our Sante Fe is getting on 9 years old and is starting to cost us money. We would like to change from a jeep like vehicle to a car. Does anyone drive have any views or experience with the Skoda Octavia elegance??? any help would be much appreciated as I do not trust car dealers opnions
Due to the Max weight of the van being 1500KG you will need the Scout or Octavia 4x4, or the Superb 1.9 or 2ltr
Or the Yeti
If the elegance is the 2ltr tdi it will tow your van, all the above have a max tow weight between 1600 and 1800 kg
Do not know the weight of your van, I have a Octavia Estate 2.0TDi 4x4, basically an Elegance trim minus a couple of things. Mass in service (V5C)1,495kg, towing limit 1,600kg, torque 320nm/1,750-2,500rpm, 138bhp. Very good at towing 33-36 mpg depending on roads and up to 64 mpg solo.
The 4x4 is heavier than the standard models and very good in mud using Haldex traction.
Have a look at a mk4 Mondeo or even an Insignia. I know the Mondeo would do the job well but I cannot comment on the Insignia.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
