Evening guys,
First of all Happy New Year!
Now to business I am after some advice, some plonker recently decided they wanted to play dodgems with my car (2008 vectra) and the insurance have told me they're 99% sure it'll be written off because of the extent of damage, my question has/is anyone using either of these cars for towing. My caravan is around 1450kg and the vectra pulled it spot on so my obvious choice would be a Insignia, however the wife thinks they're to big she would rather have a Astra J (2009 onwards) 2000 cdti which think would be a touch small!
Has anyone got/use either to tow?
Many thanks in advance
Carl

Astra will be know where heavy enough for 1.45 tons , your Vectra must have been close to 100% even with that weight .
For a van which has a MPTLM of 1450kg you need a car that has a kerbweight of around 1700kg to give you a reasonable weight advantage

hi any time i have wanted to check a potential car for towing my caravan i just Google car - caravan compatibility , and a couple of different sites come up , put in your caravan details and your choice of car , the results are very informative, with some users leaving feedback on the performance of both while towing.
Good luck Brian

try this one.

http://www.towcar.info/basic_index.php

although some of the feedback is a bit suspect.

i believe that large estate cars make good towcars.

i dont have a lot of experience towing caravans. i have a 4x4 and tow a 7m long caravan (towbar to back lights)and i wouldnt say it wasnt unnerving at times. so a lighter car would scare me to death....but thats just me.

i have a colleague who towed his 'freelander' twin axel caravan with a vectra 1.8 which must have been over 100%.

i think he only towed from where he bought the van to his seasonal pitch, on a roads only but it cant have been much fun.
