Hi all, We have a 2004 Hyundai Santa fe 2lt crdI 4wl drive manual, looking at new to us vans and not sure how heavy we could go for, we have a little light van so we were just looking around 1400 Max laden, how ever seen a lovely coachman pastiche 520/4 with 1590 max laden would this be too heavy? Not certain what the kerb weight is, but I know lots of you lot have them what weight's do you all tow?

when did you pass your driving test? www.whattowcar.com has this to say about that combination "The weight ratio (loaded caravan / kerbweight tow car) for the Hyundai and Coachman is 89%. This means that the caravan is a somewhat heavy for this car. The stability and safety index is low for this outfit."
If the ratio is 89% then it is fine, there are unlikely to be any concerns. The only problem I can see for you woul be if your licence is dated after 01/01/1997 when you would find that your outfit has a total allowable mass greter than 3500kg and would be illegal for you to tow.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
The average larger family car or SUV, Even the smaller ones are likely to be approx 2100kg - 2300kg laden, So probably cannot tow their max limit for post 1997 licence holders.
