Has anyone had dealings with a Kia carens 2.0l. Crdi, and do they have any views on these cars?? I have towed with 1999 vauxhall Astra for the last 6 years without any problems but now need a bigger boot to accommodate an electric scooter, and am wondering if I could as good a service from a second hand Kia.

I would suggest the Auto version, the manual gearboxes tend to just disintegrate on their own

I,v a mate with an auto carens and he says its very thirsty.
I,v got a new shape 2012 Astra 1.7 ecoflex cdti sports tourer, just short of 3 year old, iam going to sell it as i find it hurts my back getting in and out [ i am 6ft 3" though ] iam going to get either a Kia Sportage or the Hyundai Tucson, if your tall or have a dodgy back the new astra might not be for you.

it depends on the actual loaded weight of your caravan really, I have taken a look on whattowcar.com and to be honest its not the best of choices if your van is 1240kgs loaded, and likely to be very slow going on inclines

The actual towing is not the problem as my caravan is only 750 kg (I think). Ian more interested in the reliability of the Kia. My main requirements are for an easy entry and decent boot size to a dismantled mobility scooter.
Many thanks for your replies.

It's a1987 Elddis Whirlwind. Bought a few years ago to use as an outside den but decided to put back into use as a tourer. I had packed in caravan nine due to illness, but after buying this caravan I got the urge to wander again.

We had a Carens, on a 04 plate, did 80k in it. It was used as a long distance motorway commuter and our tow car. Totally reliable, never even replaced the battery our exhaust, only thing we did was cambelt, and disc brakes and service it.. They are a bit bland inside, the heater is not the best in the world, and push the engine a bit hard it is a little gruff, watch out for tin worm on the rear arches. In my opinion they can be bought for very little money and a bit of a bargain, maybe to do with brand snobbery, I dunno. You will get your scooter in the back, assume it one of them that comes apart. Our van weighs in at 1100 kilos and it would and did tow it all day at 70 mph. We bought a Vectra to replace it, this weekend we pick up another Carens. Nuff said.

We have a research project and are inviting Kia Carens owners to take part. Here is the link.

If interested please get in touch.

Thanks,

Mobility scooter will fit in the boot area with the back seats dropped, I had a full sized one in the back of mine, didn't even dismantle it just lowered the handle bars and put the brake on
