You weren't the only one suggesting cars that aren't within the ops budget.
Sorry tbh I have no idea what older models go for I just stated what I had ... so please forgive me for my failings in not checking used prices first ...

You are forgiven this time but please do read the OP's fully before responding ;-)
The isuzu trooper is a tow machine. Especialy if you stay away from the older 3.0 litre models. The auto 3.1 will do 31mpg towing if you're careful, but the age might put you off somewhat, but you'll be better off with a jap import rather than one that's lived in the UK all its life (although my old 21yr old trooper is still going like a good 'un).
The landcruser amazon is an absolute beast of a car . 6 of you will rattle around in it mpg not as good as the trooper; around 28mpg but you'll NEVER get too much weight in it or behind it.
------------- Doing whatever the rice krispies tell me to.
What about a Toyota Picnic. Brilliant car BUT latest year they were made is 2001 . Tows very well and very spacious too. MUCH better ride than a RAV 4 which is bumpy ride ... thats what I have now , and would swap it any day for a Picnic .
I had 4 Picnics and they all went to family wheen I bought another and they are all STILL being used by family and look great.
My daughter has the last one and she knows too well I would swap it her back for my MUCH later year RAV 4
More powerful than a RAV 4 too yet same 2ltr engine ... better gearing.
The picnic would Sxxt on the Rav for pulling power.
I must say ... The RAV being a 4x4 is very stable though but rough ride.
When talking about a 2001 Y reg picnic , the body and mechanics are so good , its like talking about a 2006 year " against "almost all other cars. I never had anything go wrong , all the electrics worked perfect , not even a blown bulb , and they are still the same.
Only thing ever had replaced was 1 battery and 1 clutch + normal consumables like brake pads tyres etc.
I did thousands of miles and toured Europe and all over UK both towing and not towing ... all done in comfort . Ahhhh NICEE car
------------- Camping to the ex.tent that I like awnings as a bit on the side.
Galaxy here, 130hp TDi midel.
Tows our 1500kg Swift very well. Very stable outfit.
Consumption while towing is about 25mpg.
And thats real world actual mpg, not law of physics defying like some on here will have you believe.
Solo its generally about 35mpg, but 45 on a long motorway run.
Reliability is poor though, with plenty of faults on them. Ours has a full service history too.Not expensive faults, just niggly ones.
If it wasn't for the fact its such a good fit for an active family, I'd have sold long ago.
