do people know ? have just changed caravan and new one doesnt have a alko pull down hitchlock type. but our old one did is it possible to swap over before we sell the old or is it part of the chassis ?

Do you mean the rad handled stabiliser?

You can swap them if you have the correct spacer for the tube your fitting it to.

When you buy the stabiliser kit they come with 3 different sized spacers.

Dont forget to add some threadlock also. If you undo the existing nyloc nuts they wont be as secure the 2nd time.

You can exchange the hitch for any particular hitch you want but the part to watch for is the damper behind the hitch that springs forward so if you just remove the two bolts without retaining the damper then you will most likely have problems pushing it back. It's a short simple task if you adhere to the procedure and follow the short video provided by Alko and although it shows a 3004 stabiliser the principal is identical on any hitch replacement.
There is sometimes a sleeve between the hitch and draw bar which is basically is an adaptor but that depends on the size of draw bar fitted to the caravan. Older caravans had a 48 mm. diameter draw bar and the later ones had a 50 mm. draw bar.

just checked and our new hitch has 1 bolt at the front and 1 at the back but vertical so alko hitch wouldnt fit without maybe drilling holes through

Thats a BPW chassis hitch you describe, as used on Elddis. They are normally fitted with Winterhof stabiliser hitch but Al-ko hitches can be fitted to them, the hitch has a hole for vertical bolt as well, I would take some more advice on this though as not all may be compatable. If you watch that video you will notice the hitch being fitted has a hole for vertical bolt at back as well.

The fitting kit had the option of fitting to any chassis.

Did you check the shaft diameter?

don't bother keep the BPW its as good as an Alko and just as easy to use (also doesn't need the increased length toe ball) once your shown what to do.
