Hi, general question regarding Alko Stabilisers, I plan to buy one and there are a lot on Ebay, the correct model for my small 2 birth van is an AKS1300 however someone is selling a AKS2000 close to where I live, my question is this, can I fit the AKS2000 model to a lighter van? Thanks in anticipation.
Jeff.
If it will fit onto draw tube then it will be ok. If your caravan has Alko chassis then it should fit but draw tube will be smaller diameter so you will need reducer sleeve that is supplied as part of kit if you bought hitch new but may be missing if its secondhand. Reducers can be bought from Alko spares supplier.
Yes you can fit the AKS 2000 model as I have one on my caravan which is 1300 kgs. which should also be a 1300 model really. However, because the top handle is offset you need a specific type of hitchlock that will fit.
No, the 1300 model is no more difficult to use than any other model really, it's just a bit different that's all. The only thing you have to beware of with the 1300 is the side dial that you don't over unwind it (anti-clockwise) when releasing the friction pads.
The way that the 1300 operates is you have to have the side handle in the up position and the dial on the opposite side unscrewed to create a gap between the towball and friction pads. You then lower the hitch via the jockey wheel as normal then when fully down you wind the side dial clockwise which winds the friction pads onto the towball. The dial is on a ratchet you you can't over tighten then when fully closed you push the side handle down which you will feel the compression of the friction pads creating the grip.
On the AKS 2000 and 3004 you just hitch up and push the top handle down without any side dial, however, I think that the friction pads may be easier to replace on the 1300 than the other two but can't actually confirm this.
