Hi, I've just bought an Elddis typhoon 1000 XL 1994 caravan,
I stupidly bought a hitchlock thinking that they are all the same sizes and now realise that that's not the case.
I bought a Saracen fullstop security hitchlock, which is too small.
I have spoken to Elddis who told me to find out if my caravan had a red or blue sign by the handbrake but I couldn't see any.
I have looked at book that came with the van and it says it's a bpw model?
Does this mean I need to buy a milenco winterhoff ws3000 hitchlock?
I am confused?

BPW is the chassis. Which stabiliser do you have?

They can be retrofitted. My caravan has an ALKO hitch that i fitted myself.

Popt a picture up on tinypic.com or add it to your gallery, Or use google image search.

I don't get it?
what does a stabiliser have to do with a hitch lock?
I've just bought a bulldog stabiliser 200q. But how is this going to affect the fitting of a security hitch lock?
please tell me a hitch lock is for putting on the tow bar of caravan to stop it getting towed away? while my caravan is parked by itself outside my house?
Or is it used for actually towing?
I am new to caravanning sorry to sound so dull.

Stabiliser can be incorprated into hitch so will require a lock specific for that hitch, you can recognise Alko or Winterhof stabiliser hitches, they have an extra handle on top.

A caravan the age of yours usually has standard(ie non stabiliser hitch fitted. I doubt Elddis will be much help with a caravan that is 21yrs old. However, hitch in your picture is just a standard type. Any box type hitch lock would do the job. This type would probably fit. Your local caravan shop will stock similar.

The hitch lock you have already is I think, specific for Alko stabiliser hitch. I'm suprised it won't fit a standard hitch though. Is the hitch handle too long to fit into top of lock?

That looks very flimsy, I bought this lock which I think was an alko.http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=231467202431&alt=web

Pretty soon I think it's going to turn me into an Alco holic. Lol

Yes handle to long. Can't put the bolt through as hole is covered.

If yours is a standard hitch as in your picture then this lock will be as good as any. Or the Super HeavyDuty 3004 in small pic also fits standard hitch as shown. Can you take your wrong lock back to supplier & exchange for suitable one?

No, I'd leave that one, it says to fit Winterhof, which is a stabiliser hitch.
