I suspect the lack of response to date is that few people will tow with the automatic version, due to its restricted towing ability. Although the manual version is an excellent towcar and can legally tow about 2 tonnes, the automatic's towing limit is, from memory, only 1300 or 1350kg and I think it also has a 75kg nose weight limit compared to the manual's 100kg.

I appreciate that you may already be aware of the above, but if not hope this of some assistance; if you already knew, at least I've bumped your post back to the top!

Hi, have since the post bought a Mazda cn 5, far better tow car, ticks all the boxes. Test drove the Nissan and found it very high revving in most gears, wheras the Mazda totally outperformed the Nissan. The car is really nice to look at but with only a 1.6 engine just don't understand nissans thinking.

Not sure about the Mazda but I can say the Xtrail Auto is a great tow car I bought mine 15 months ago and can say that it is a great tow car and had the 2.2 manual before this and the auto is far better to tow with we did about 3000 miles last year no problems

Practical Caravan Magazine do regular reviews on different tow cars and are un biased in their reports even suggesting which model to buy when buying a used model also give readers views on different models

www.practicalcaravan.com ask for back issue with report on your motor gives a lot of info.

Even tells you which is the bargepole model

Suspect auto box is CVT belt drive, which Nissan has used over the years. Had one on a Primera once, very unimpressed. Ruins the new X Trail too (along with a 1.6 diesel the only engine choice).
