Hi has anyone towed from M6 tebay to the A66 as we are on our way to barnard castle via the A66 please, as I have heard that there is a road that way that is a bit steep but I do not know which one it is.Ta.
The M6 is uphill virtually the whole way from Kendal to the A66. You then have a steep section of the A66 From Brough to Stainmore Summit which tops out at about 1400 ft above sea level.
thanks for that, especially the part about stainmore, stupid me, I meant to insert that i was going to take the A685 from tebay to kirby stephen then to Brough, then onward on the A66 to barnard castle.I must remember to read my post before posting. Thanks again for your reply.
No problem with that road It is the usual road for all concerned. Steep is always relative but his steep is not steep, merely a steady climb. We have used the road with numerous outfits over the years. My only concern was as a student in a bond 3 wheeler with 2 of us in it. even then we made it without a problem. KS can be a bit of a bottle neck but nothing to worry about. Enjoy life in God's own county once you get to Durham
Thank you,a bond 3 wheeler, let me guess,RED.I should be ok then as I tow at 83%,car 1204,van at 1000.JUst never been on this road before.Stayed overnight at the tebay truckstop lots of time though.
We travel that way to the Lakes regular, the road is fine for towing as a previous poster has said , Kirkby Stephen can be a bottle neck at times but nothing to worry about.
The particular hill you are worried about starts after a left hand bend --goes up a long steep straight for about half a mile..round a left hand bend then its downhill all the way to Kirkby--gives your car time to cool down! The uphill part has 2 lanes to allow tractors to pass you!!
