If you can keep to 56mph then its surprising at how much fuel you can save.
Normally when towing i get low 30's in my Mondeo diesel, But when in fairly heavy traffic but moving at 50 - 56mph i was getting 39mpg.
I wouldnt be happy doing 50mph normally if the motorway was free flowing but keeping up with the trucks and mostly staying in the left lane does help save fuel.
Finding the peak torque can also help, I found the torque to be a bit weak in 6th gear and foound staying in 5th and not exceeding 60mph gave the best economy. If i changed upto 6th it still pulled well but used more fuel.
