I am an Audi owner, I do not look down my nose at Skodas (same company), I have had two, a Favorit and a Felicia.
Personally I think the only thing stopping the Superb being the ideal tow car is front wheel drive, I hate mushy steering when the tyres are scrabbling for grip under acceleration. My Audi quattro estate is great for towing. 2.7 Diesel has all the power needed and the four wheel drive system with traction control and torsen diff means the car is sure footed in all conditions, even mud!!
Andy, I would never argue that the Quattro 2.7 is a better towcar than the Superb.....but it is about twice the price! :-)
Apologies for the generalisation, but I do find that many prestige marque owners still believe that Skoda have retained some traits from their bad years and can easily hold their own against the VAG stablemates, at considerably less cost in many cases...
I remember a few years ago Skoda were disqualified from the British rally championship for having under sized engines.
Skoda had won the production class for many years, the powers that be decided it was time for a change so implemented a minimum 1500cc rule. Unfortunately the Skoda 1300cc engine would not over bore to 1500cc.
