For those who don't know, most heavy trucks are powershift autos these days as are cars. Dsg auto boxes do indeed have clutches to wear out. The days of torque converter autos are just about over.
Than you all for your thoughts, it was interesting reading your replies. We ended up getting a 2011 free lander HSE auto. We've had our first weekend towing and are mega pleased. It's a pleasure drive, light and very responsive. I just hope I'm still pleased this time next year, only time will tell

A very large local to us Haulage company which runs 100 + tractors all no older than 63 plate has nothing but manuals , they wont entertain autos because of fuel consumption
