Hi I would be grateful for any help on this.
The car I usually use to tow is my Citroen Dispatch 7 seater taxi but I had it written off yesterday so as I am booked into a campsite for 4 weeks starting from next Sunday I am now panicking about how I am going to get it towed down from Pontypool in south Wales to The campsite down Bank Farm in the Gower.
My partner has a Renault Megane Scenic 1.9 Sci with a towbar. But would it tow a 1998 Viceroy Jubilee?
I have no idea on how you work out the weights of the caravan and the cars maximum allowed towing weights.
I believe my partners car can tow up to 1300kg's?
As she has only just passed her test I may have to get myself insured on her car to avoid us losing our holiday.
Look at your cars Max train weight. Subtract the cars loaded weight from it and what's left is what you can tow.
Then check the cars max braked trailer weight and make sure that is more than the caravans loaded weight.
Then check that the caravans loaded weight is ideally not more than 85% of the cars kerb weight but definitely not more than 100%.
Check the nose weight of the caravan and make sure the max nose weight for the car is not exceeded. You can adjust this by careful loading of the caravan.
You could try a tow car matching website like www.whattowcar.com
Or if you belong to the caravan club, they also offer a free outfit matching service that would give you accurate information for your car and caravan combination.
