I towed my trailer 300 miles to Newquay yesterday, the first 275 trouble free.the last 25 miles started to get me a little concerned. Probably over nothing.two things bothered me and I know they are probably nothing, it's just I'm not used to towing. After 275 miles when we were sitting in traffic and every time I pulled off or braked, a few creaks were coming from the back end.is this normal such as dry towing ball joint etc??

The second when I stopped to have a quick look, I looked around the wheel area and took hold of the tyre and gave them a quick rocking. There is a little bit of play in each wheel from the hub.its an unbraked trailer and with both wheels having the same amount of play in them, I'm hoping it's normal hub movement.do these questions make sense? Just panicking about making sure it's ok for the journey home on Saturday otherwise I'll try and find someone down here to have a look at it for me.

Thanks again folks

can you jack the trailer up,if so spin the wheel and if you hear a rumbling, then bearings could be on the way out or a slightly worn axle stub, also try the tightness of the wheel nuts they can become loose,if both check out ok then no worries, otherwise take it to a tyre fitters and ask them to check

If you don`t use a stabilizer, you`ll need some grease on the towball. Otherwise it`ll sound off . . . as it tries it`s best to seize up!

Taper roller bearings need some clearances to work and to allow for expansion, allow 1/16" rock at the rim for 8-10" wheels or thereabouts.

On your return journey stop after app 10 miles and check that the wheel hubs are not getting hot
